Camp Possibilities Blog
Hi, my name is Rachel and I am eleven-and-a-half years old. I have had diabetes since I was two-and-a-half. When I was 5, I got put on the pump. Ever since, my diabetes has been much easier to manage. The most difficult thing about diabetes, for me, is not being able to eat when my blood sugar is high. It’s also tough telling kids and people in general that diabetes is not contagious and that they don’t have to be afraid to ask questions. I personally think this is hard for most diabetic children and adults to do.
I have been to Camp Possibilities four years in a row and this year will be my fifth. I think it is a great camp for children with diabetes. I would have to say the three best things about going to camp are: hanging out with kids who have diabetes just like me, meeting new people, and having fun just being myself. I would say the two worst things about camp are going home and leaving your new friends. The most important thing I learned at Camp Possibilities is that you don’t have to be afraid to be yourself, even when you’re not around other diabetic children. I have also learned that being a diabetic can teach you to try and try again. If you don’t take care of yourself, you will end up with complications. So take care of yourself and remember to just be who you truly are.
That wraps up my blog. See you---bye!

Rachel, great job! Good luck at CP in 2008 if you are a camper! Hope to see you at "SFWR", or a new event for children with Diabetes in MD. DE. PA. NJ and other areas. I will keep you posted about, "Extrem Weekend for Children with Diabetes"! It will be a awesome weekend for children with Diabetes and their buddy.
Keep GOING Rachel!
